A home is more than four walls (or in our case, a metal box on wheels). For us, having electricity means being able to work, stay connected, and make our home more comfortable. My husband, always thinking about our well-being, found this iPower XQS2300i on Facebook Marketplace in San Diego. It’s not the most convenient solution, nor is it the quietest, but it’s our first step toward energy independence.

At first, we used it outside in parking lots or quiet places to work with, using it to charge batteries and/or other power tools so my husband could continue building our tiny house. We’re currently living inside the truck and converting it into a tiny home. So my husband had to find a way to fit it inside the truck. .
We want to build a home, not a noise factory!😅
We knew we couldn’t just shove the generator into the truck. It’s noisy, releases gases, and requires oxygen to operate. So my husband, with his knack for finding solutions, built a wooden box with foam insulation to reduce the sound.

When we bought the truck, we noticed it already had a hole in the side. Instead of patching the hole with metal, my husband turned it into an exhaust vent for the generator. It was a perfect solution.

The first attempts at using the quiet generator box were unsuccessful. The generator kept shutting off, and we didn’t know why. Until my husband, after analyzing it, realized the engine wasn’t getting enough oxygen inside the box. His solution was simple but effective:

Was it worth it to invest the time and money into this project? Definitely. With this basic installation, we can now connect:
💡 Computers.
💡 Lights inside the truc .
💡Construction tools.
💡Cell phone chargers.
The generator isn’t perfect yet, but my husband keeps thinking of ways to improve our electrical situation. We want to install solar panels in the future to rely less on the generator. But for now, we’re making the best of what we have and moving forward little by little, excited to have a tiny house to call our own.
Every day we make a little more progress toward building our home. My husband has worked tirelessly to ensure we have electricity, a comfortable space for our daughter, and a life together in our tiny house on wheels.
If you’re considering installing a generator in your RV, we hope our experience helps you find solutions faster. We will continue to share our progress and learnings.😊
We still have to finish building our little house, so I hope you’ll bookmark our website and come back to visit us periodically.
